Travel Clinic Information


The Prescription Shop provides pre-travel assessments service for all Carleton University staff and students. This service includes:
  • Update of standard vaccinations (if required)
  • Travel vaccinations (including Yellow Fever)
  • Travel medications (e.g., antimalarial)
  • Refills of certain maintenance medications needed for travel
  • Counselling on disease prevention and management
You can begin the booking process for consultation on-line by completing a travel questionnaire. Please give yourself at least 6-8 weeks before travel to have the consult done. You will need to know your vaccination history. If possible, bring in your yellow card or the information from your Public Health. For vaccination histories, if you went to school in Canada – you should be able to contact the public health authority where you went to school. A record of vaccinations is required to attend school. Please ensure you bring your insurance information with you (the card itself, or a picture of the card front and back) to the appointment if you are a new patient so that we can bill any vaccines or medications through your insurance plan(s). Remember to book the vaccine administration appointment with the nurses at Carleton Health Services for any administration of prescribed vaccines. Administration of vaccines is not done during the consult. In terms of timing: Yellow Fever vaccine should be done at least 10 days before entry into the country of question and requires you to bring your passport for administration alongside the vaccine. Meningococcal vaccine for Hajj or Umrah must show that the vaccine was administered at least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia and is valid for 3 years for the polysaccharide vaccine, or within the last 5 years for the conjugate vaccine (we don’t carry the polysaccharide vaccine). It is generally recommended to get vaccines done at least 2 weeks before travel.
