New Students

Information for new students:

The Prescription Shop:

The Prescription Shop is the pharmacy located on Carleton University’s campus. We are located in the Carleton Technology and Training Center on the first floor. (Same building as Health Services)

Filling a new prescription:

If the doctor has given you a new prescription in paper format, bring it to the pharmacy. The pharmacy staff will set up a profile for you and have your medication ready in a set amount of time. If we do not have your medication, it usually takes one business day to have it available.

If you are a new patient with us, any prescriptions we receive will be put on hold for you. Please present yourself with your drug insurance information (this can include a picture of the front and back of the drug insurance card) so we can complete your profile and prepare your prescription.

Filling a prescription you’ve had before:

If you’re coming from a Canadian city, then your medications can be transferred to our pharmacy (some restrictions on certain medications). Our transfers form can be found here. Once completed, please give pharmacy staff 1 to 2 business days to have that prepared.

Remember to use the TRANSFER QUESTIONNAIRE in the tab above if you would like us to transfer your prescriptions from another pharmacy to us. Ensure you have refills to transfer – if you DO NOT HAVE REFILLS, please contact your MD office to fax us a new script (or else this will further delay your prescription). Please give us at least 5 business days to have transfers prepared.

Filling a refill prescription:

If you have already filled a medication at the pharmacy once, you are able to request a refill online, as long as you still have refills. Online refill requests can be found here or you can download the PharmaChoice app here.

We recommend using the online/app refill process to ensure your medication is prepared before you come to the pharmacy, minimizing the time you have to spend in the pharmacy.

Please note: Government issued identification is required while picking up certain medications such as Adderall, Vyvanse, Biphentin, Ritalin, etc. Carleton student ID is NOT accepted.

Insurance:

If you are a full time student (does not apply for international students), you will automatically be enrolled into Carleton University’s medical insurance. If you are planning to opt-out of the insurance, please let us know so we do not use it (once you use it, you cannot opt-out). If not, we use your Carleton Student ID number.

Please note: If you are a full time student with no other insurance, you cannot opt-out of the Carleton medication coverage to use OHIP+. You must use your student insurance.

For those who are new to Carleton University, if you have questions about OHIP+ please refer to the tab that discusses information about the provincial plan and eligibility.

If you have questions about your UNDERGRADUATE DRUG PLAN please contact CUSA. If you have questions about your GRADUATE DRUG PLAN please contact GSA.

Parental insurances: if you are covered under your parents insurance plan, please have a photo of the insurance card. There are several numbers we will need.

Hours:

The pharmacy is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

We are closed on provincial and national holidays and during the Christmas break but open during the summer break and reading weeks.

If you are calling after hours, please feel free to leave a message on our answering machine. We will check it the next morning.

If you have any other questions, give us a call at 613-526-3666.

Welcome to Carleton!
